Commitment spree far from over

The wave of pledges started last Thursday with Quentin Snider popping for Louisville and Martavious Newby opting for Mississippi.

Then Friday, J-Mychal Reese stepped to the plate and offered a verbal commitment to Texas A&M, while Sanjay Lumpkin gave Northwestern his word.

Chris Bolden quickly followed on Saturday, opting to stay close to home and go with Georgia Tech.

Sunday capped the commitment spree, as Texas A&M struck again. This time in 2013 prospect Kendrick Nunn. Marquette also scored top 100 prospect Steve Taylor.

In all three top 100 prospects made decisions, while seven prospects committed to high major programs in a four-day span.

So what’s up with the timing? Why are decisions all the sudden popping left and right?

The answer is simple. With the July evaluation periods over, college programs are starting to prioritize their lists and working their top tier targets a bit harder.

On the flip side, prospects are starting to realize who is coming after them the hardest. Many are narrowing their list, setting visits and starting to develop favorites.

But the commitment spree is far from over.

College visits will progressively increase over the next few weeks and that’s when the coaches can give their best pitches.
